Extreme sportsman Dean Dunbar will today attempt to become the first blind person to swim across the Corryvreckan Gulf. The treacherous stretch of water between Jura and Scarba in the Inner Hebrides is home to the world’s third largest whirlpool. Dean plans to swim the English Channel next year and set himself the challenge to spice up his training. The 42-year-old, of Blairgowrie, Perthshire, will be accompanied by his coach Cathy King.* He said: “If the whirlpool starts up while I’m still swimming, we’ll have a problem”. *Cathy King is a friend.
