Felix Baumgartner

You may not recognise the name "Felix Baumgartner", but I am sure you will recognise some of his work.

Felix Baumgartner is an extreme sports legend, and will go down as such in the history of extreme sports. He has pushed the boundaries of not only his main sport of BASE jumping, but also in the sports of freefall and free-flying!

His BASE jumping world records include:

In 1999 he claimed the world record for the "highest parachute dive form a building, the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpor, Malaysia", from a height of 451 metres.

In the same year, 1999, he claimed the world record for the "lowest parachute dive from the Christ Statue in Rio de Jeneiro, Brazil". (See photos below.) The height for this was just 29 metres! That is low!

If you still don't recognise Felix, you must have heard about his crossing of the English Channel, with a carbon wing strapped to his back!

On 31st July, 2003, Felix entered the record books again by becoming the first person to cross the English Channel in freefall!
